Lose yourself in the majestic wilderness which is Costa Rica. With some of the most spectacular scenery you’ll find anywhere, Costa Rica’s beaches, rainforest, volcanoes and coastlines are wonderfully unspoiled. Whether you start your Costa Rican adventure on the pacific side of the country or enjoy beach life on the Caribbean before travelling inland, the breath-taking views and abundance of wildlife is a perennial treat.
Several National Parks
The country has several national parks, as well as jungle, home to numerous animals, including rare species. Journey through Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio, the Monteverde cloud forest reserve or the Corcovado National Park on foot, horseback or jeep.
Volcano spotting is a popular pastime for visitors: the smoking peaks of Irazu and Poas are clearly visible from the planes as they land at San Jose airport. A volcano giant, Arenal, in the north of the country, usually erupts more than 40 times a day! Hot mud, steaming springs and waterfalls are the progeny of Rincon de la Vieja, a bubbling beast of a volcano that dominates the national park in which it sits.
San Jose, the country’s capital, was established by the Spanish in the 18th Century. A great place to pick up artisan crafts and premium souvenirs; bus tours, Winchester Mystery House, The Tech Interactive or a private tour of Livermore wine valley are great ways to pass the time.
