Iceland

Famed for breathtaking natural wonders such as the Northern Lights and Blue Lagoon, Iceland is sure to take your breath away. This year-round holiday destination is for anybody looking for stunning landscapes and cosmopolitan cities. With an abundance of volcanoes, glaciers and geothermal lagoons, if this dazzling country isn’t on your bucket list, it ought to be.

Iceland is a land of ice and fire. Rumbling volcanic landscapes appear to be straight out of the movies and awe-inspiring glaciers carve their way through spectacular mountain ranges, interrupted only by blasting geysers and astounding hot springs. It’s fair to say, Iceland is as special as it is dramatic.

No holiday to Iceland is complete without a visit to The Blue Lagoon. This turquoise bath is rich in algae and minerals and no matter what time of the day you visit, it’s simply stunning. One of the many geothermal lagoons in Iceland, the Blue Lagoon is a top attraction and it’s easy to see why.  Water temperature sits around 38°C so you’ll be toasty warm while the healing properties in the mud and minerals turn your skin silky soft.

Iceland is a year-round destination. Winter entices tourists with the chance of witnessing the spectacular Aurora Borealis. This captivating natural light-show will dazzle as an electric, emerald glow lights up the sky. The height of summer promises a midnight sun that will shock and excite as you lose track of time.

Don’t think for one minute that Iceland is only for outdoor lovers. The cosmopolitan cities such as the world’s most northern, Reykjavík, offer so much entertainment you’ll be forgiven if you travel to Iceland for the city culture alone. Cafes serve up live music, new artists make themselves known and more and more restaurants are popping up, treating both locals and tourists alike to fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

Despite Iceland’s popularity, the capital, Reykjavik retains its Nordic charm. Colourful, corrugated iron houses can be found in the old town and you sample craft ales and freshly caught fish in the Old Harbour. By day you’ll learn about Vikings in the Settlement Exhibition and by night you’ll watch as the trendy cafes transform into super-cool bars and become filled with avid party-goers who line the streets until the early hours, enjoying Reykjavík’s famous djammið, pub crawl.
