If you’re after a world-class, 5-star holiday, look no further. The Maldives is simply stunning. These idyllic islands are home to some of the most luxurious hotels, the finest restaurants and pristine beaches. The Maldives’ atolls can only be reached by seaplane or speedboat, you will cross the turquoise blue lagoons and be greeted with the warmest welcome. The Maldivians are renowned for their hospitality and within seconds of being here, it will be easy to see why.
Many of the resorts in the Maldives sit on their private islands, reachable by seaplane or speedboat, so you really will feel like a VIP on arrival! Due to the number of islands, it can be quite overwhelming to know which one to choose. Below is just a small insight into a few of our favourites. Give us a ring and we can talk through the different choices and help make your decision a little easier.
The Central Atolls have the richest underwater world. The resorts here are the perfect spot for swimming with whale sharks, the South Ari Atoll in particular. If you’re after complete seclusion, take a look at the W Maldives. It offers a luxury private island resort where you can spend the day relaxing on the powder-white sand and when you feel the need for a little adventure, the snorkelling is simply stunning. Water sports, an underwater nightclub, a spa and 6 beautiful bars and restaurants will keep you entertained.
The Malé Atolls offer the same superb snorkelling as well as fantastic surf opportunities for the more energetic guests. These atolls are close to a lot of the bigger resorts so you are only a quick speedboat transfer away from more action. New in 2019 is the luxurious resort of Lux North Malé Atoll. Private pools, lagoon-view terrace, beach club, cinema screen and a yoga plinth, this resort offers something for everybody, couples and families alike.
Being the least developed of all of the atolls, the Northern Atolls are the ideal choice to experience a little more of the Maldivian culture. If snorkelling is your thing, Baa Atoll has been declared a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve due to having the largest groups of coral reefs in the Indian Ocean. The stunning Milaidhoo Island Maldives is a luxurious boutique resort, tucked in the middle of the reserve. Designed for couples and honeymooners, it is an island paradise.
The Southern Atolls tick a lot of boxes, pristine beaches, easy transfers to the capital of Malé, great surf and untouched dive spots. Offering beach, water and treehouse villas, Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa is the epitome of luxury. They pride themselves on offering a tailor-made break that maximises your seclusion from the rest of the world.
Spend your days relaxing in your resort where your biggest decision will be what cocktail you have next, and when you feel the need for a little adventure, how about a trip to the country’s capital, Malé. In contrast to the empty beaches, you will find excitable locals in the colourful markets selling their goods as well as freshly caught fish.
A sunset cruise is a great way of seeing the islands from the sea, enjoy a glass of champagne on your luxury yacht as the sun sets over the horizon. If that’s not romantic enough, why not travel to Maafushivaru where you can spend the night on an uninhabited island.
If you enjoy time underwater as much as you do above, one of the biggest draws to the Maldives is the snorkelling and diving. The temperature of the sea is warm and many of the reefs are accessed straight from the beach, bringing you face to face with manta rays, turtles and even whale sharks.
Food and Drink
It’s no surprise that fresh fish and seafood is a popular choice for the chefs in the Maldives. Having neighbours such as India and Sri Lanka means they have all the spices they need to make simply stunning creations. From Maldivian curry to a tasty freshly-caught grilled fish. Coconut is also a staple here, you’ll find it in your food and your exotic cocktails.
