Let’s cut to the chase, Memphis rocks! If you’re thinking about a holiday to this wonderous city you’re likely to be into your music, a love for barbecue food is an added bonus! There’s no better time to travel to Memphis, the city has a real buzz about it, there are new trendy bars, bold restaurants, and many of the old buildings have undergone restoration. The city is fun and quirky and the locals just love to entertain everyone that is drawn to their home.
One thing Memphis is not short of is things to do. For those of you that are music lovers and we’re sure it’s most of you, the city will soon have you in a frenzy. It’s the home of soul, blues and rock ‘n’ roll so you can be sure that around every corner there’s a bar or museum that will keep you entertained, particularly, Beale Street and Graceland…
Being Tenessee’s number one tourist attraction, no trip to Memphis is complete with a visit to Beale Street. Live music fills the air, as does the smell of the tantalising barbeque food. The history of the city is apparent and so is the new up and coming talent; it’s fair to say Beale Street is the heart of the city. The street draws in visitors with blues, jazz, rock ‘n’ roll, R&B, soul and gospel music, whether it’s in a cosy bar or at an open-air concert.
Elvis enthusiasts flock to the home of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Graceland. His house takes you through the years from his early life through to his rise to fame. Experience a tour of Graceland mansion as well as visiting the new entertainment complex. There’s also The Entertainer Career Museum, which is the largest and most comprehensive Elvis museum in the world, and an automotive museum.
The mighty Mississippi
No mention of Memphis would be complete without acknowledging this mighty river. The river can be enjoyed in many ways depending on how energetic you’re feeling. Enjoy the views with a picnic whilst the kids play in the splash park at Beale Street Landing, duck into a rooftop bar and enjoy over a cocktail, or jump in a kayak and experience the city from the river itself.
To BBQ or not to BBQ
You can probably smell the barbeque food from the moment you step off the plane but as well as the smoky pulled pork and dry-rubbed barbecue ribs, Memphis insists that they have food for everybody’s soul and stomach. As well as over 100 barbeque restaurants, you will find fine dining, authentic Italian, mouth-watering Mexican, casual burger joints and award-winning chefs, we can pretty much guarantee you’ll be spoilt for choice and leave Memphis wanting more!
